A gay community provides an unlikely setting for two straight couples’ Fourth of July celebration. Sally, who is married to Sam, has inherited a house in the community from her brother. Sam's sister, Chloe, and her husband, John, join them there for food, charades and fireworks. However, the two men despise each other; Sally is panicked over her pregnancy; and Chloe seems determined to drive them all mad with her hyperkinetic ways. As a result, the four people end up finding little to celebrate.

Reviving Ophelia adapts one of the truly seminal nonfiction books of our time into the gripping story of four girls. Jill, Allie, Lia and Dawn are all battling the corrosive influence of popular culture and searching for the personal North Star that will guide them home. The book by Mary Pipher is a must-read for parents of adolescent daughters. Playwright Bennett, specifically chosen by Dr. Pipher to adapt her work, deftly leavens the drama with great humor, tracing the intertwining lives of these four girls from first grade through middle school, and then through high school to graduation and into adulthood.
