About the Center

Main stage theatreThe Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts is South Puget Sound Community College's signature building. It is the physical symbol of the college's two-decade evolution into a comprehensive community college. The classrooms, labs and practice rooms provide much-needed facilities for Humanities and Communication Division staff, faculty and students.

The Center's 500-seat Main Stage theatre and Black Box theatre provide home stages for the college's Theatre Program. Music students have classrooms for choir, instrumental music and electronic music, as well as practice rooms and a secure place to store instruments. The building houses a general art lab, a ceramics lab, a lab for drawing and printmaking and an exhibition gallery for the public to view student works.

The Minnaert Center provides an important point of contact for the college and the community. It serves as a community resource and asset, and offers an additional choice for spectators and patrons of the arts.

South Puget Sound Community College, in its capacity as an educational institution, encourages the use of this facility by community groups and cultural organizations. The Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts is dedicated first and foremost to facilitating instruction in the arts and humanities. Priority will be given to curricular activities in the room-scheduling process.

The secondary function of the Minnaert Center is to provide space for extra-curricular and educational activities benefiting the students and staff of the College. After these functions are accommodated, spaces will be made available for rental by community members and organizations. The Minnaert Center and all of its services are available for a variety of presentations, exhibits, rehearsals, conventions, concerts and theatre productions. The college encourages potential users to visit the facility and familiarize themselves with the Minnaert Center, the staff and our services.

Facility use will not be granted for events that restrict admission to the public on the basis of race, color, national origin, sexual orientation, disability or sex. The college reserves the right to deny facility use to any event which it considers dangerous, illegal or contrary to the college’s mission.
