South Puget Sound opens Minnaert Center with community events
South Puget Sound Community College will welcome the community to the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts with a series of grand opening events this month.
Beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 19, the public can tour the building and local western swing group Red Brown and the Tune Stranglers will perform in the Blackbox Theatre. The formal Dedication Ceremony and ribbon cutting begins at noon on the Main Stage, followed by performances from the Mud Bay Jugglers, pianist Scott Cossu.
A workshop for local elementary students and a master class for high school students commence Jan. 20. From Belle to Broadway stars Paige O’Hara (voice of Belle, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast) and Michael Pointek (Raoul, Phantom of the Opera, Los Angeles company) will share acting tips and techniques.
The Minnaert Center Gallery will feature a juried exhibit of regional artists Jan. 13 through Feb. 3. An artists reception will be held in the Gallery on Jan. 13 at 7:00 p.m.
Celtic group Colcannon will close the grand opening weekend on Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $20 general, $10 students, staff and seniors.
