College to host mid-winter Mad Science workshops

OLYMPIA, Washington – Unravel the riddles of chemistry and the secrets of spies at two half-day workshops offered Feb. 21 through South Puget Sound Community College’s Community Education program and Mad Science, an organization that offers educational science workshops to school-age students across the nation. Mad Science day-campers conduct experiments and enjoy hands-on scientific activities alongside specially trained Mad Scientists.

Crazy Chemistry harnesses the magic of molecules to help day-campers grow crystals and create tasty treats. Secret Agent Science explores the science of codes and fingerprinting. Crazy Chemistry runs from 9 a.m. to noon; Secret Agent Science, from noon to 4 p.m. Both workshops take place in Building 22, Room 130, on the college’s Olympia campus and are appropriate for all school ages.

Cost is $28 for half day, $42 for full day. Fees include materials and snacks. Day-campers should bring a sack lunch and a water bottle with a closable lid. Mad Science workshops are offered through the Office of Community Education, which provides non-credit courses to the community.
