College presents coffee art at 'Java Divas' exhibit

OLYMPIA, Washington – Explore the artistic possibilities of coffee at “Java Divas,” a multimedia exhibit in the Gallery of the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts at South Puget Sound Community College. The exhibit runs April 3 through May 5.

The exhibit explores the Northwest’s long-standing affection for coffee. Arranged by local artist and guest curator Diane Kurzyna, the exhibit features more than 25 artists working in various media, including sculpture, ceramics, painting, photography and recycled art.

An artists reception is set for April 4 at 7 p.m.; a noon Gallery talk, April 20. Admission to the Gallery talk is free. Daily parking passes can be purchased for $2 at the college’s Mottman Rd. entrance. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m.

A closing party is scheduled for May 5 from 4 to 6 p.m. The closing party is offered in conjunction with 2006 Northwest International Education Association’s annual conference, themed “Coffee and Latin America.” Community members are invited to take part in the conference, held May 5 at the Minnaert Center for the Arts.
