September: Del Lusk (Spokane) photography
Inspired by Ansel Adams, Del’s silver gelatin prints are dark black-and-white interpretations of landscapes and still-lifes that draw the viewer into an alternate world.
October: Greg Lukens (Olympia) oil and acrylic painting
Derived from the traditions and methods of religious and popular iconography, as well as historical and political paintings, Greg’s work explores the relationship between given images, language and philosophical assumptions in our highly individualized society. Reception October 6, 2006, 7-9 p.m.
November: Deon Matzen (Whidbey Island) oil painting
An art teacher at Skagit Valley College’s South Whidbey Campus and holding a fine arts degree from Seattle Pacific University, Deon was inspired to switch from watercolor to oil after a year of travel in China. Here she found this new medium to be an accurate tool in painting China’s traditional rammed earth houses which have since become a theme in her work. Reception November 3, 2006, 7-9 p.m.
December: Rosemary Powelson (Longview) mixed media collage
Rosemary’s work is made with a diverse mix of materials including photograps, hand drawings, copies, magazines, fabrics and found objects. Her work has been inspired by the colors and textures of the Middle East and age-old polarities of east/west, male/female, and dawn/dusk. Reception December 8, 2006, 7-9 p.m.
January: Second Annual Regional Juried Art Exhibit
This exhibit showcases the abundant talent found in this region. Jurors choose from submitted works, and one artist is chosen for the Jurors Award. The winner is awarded a solo exhibit in the gallery during the next year. Reception January 5, 2007, 7-9 p.m.
February: Faith Hagenhofer (Tenino) fiber art
A grandchild of immigrants, an emigrant of New York City and a Thurston County resident for 25 years, Faith uses her work to explore the concept of migration and its multi-faceted cultural implications. Reception February 9, 2007, 7-9 p.m.
March: Alec Clayton (Olympia) oil painting
Both abstract and formalist, Alec’s paintings pair stark moments of movement and struggle in nature with form-constraining patterns of checkerboards, stripes, or dots. Reception March 9, 2007, 7-9 p.m.
April: Puget Sound Sumi Artists (greater Puget Sound area)
Sumi painting and Asian calligraphy-- the more than 70 members of PSSA are amateur and professional artists exhibiting differing works ranging from traditional to contemporary in style. Reception April 6, 2007, 7-9 p.m.
May: Annual Student Art Exhibit (South Puget Sound Community College
