College to hold retraining orientations for the unemployed
South Puget Sound Community College will hold orientations for unemployed workers, displaced homemakers or those formerly self-employed who may be eligible for help through the college’s Worker Retraining Program.
The Worker Retraining Program can provide job training assistance to unemployed workers enrolled in professional/technical training at the college. The orientations will be held on the college campus, in Building 22, Room 200A, on the following dates and times:
Tuesday, Oct. 18 - 2:00 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 1 - 1:00 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 16 - 3:00 p.m.
Monday, Nov. 28 - Noon
Tuesday, Dec. 6 - 2:00 p.m.
Workers may be eligible for the program if they are unemployed or working less than 30 hours a week, and:
- They are drawing unemployment benefits or have exhausted unemployment benefits in the last 24 months.
- They were self-employed and are currently unemployed as a result of general economic conditions. Business closures must have occurred within the past 24 months.
- They are a displaced homemaker, defined as anyone who has worked for more than three years in the home while being financially dependent on another family member’s income, and who has lost that income due to separation, divorce, death or the disability of the family member.
The orientations do not require reservations. Free parking passes will be available in the college’s Security Office in Building 25. For information, contact the college's Worker Retraining Program at (360) 596-5424.
