South Puget Sound Community College will inaugurate the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts with a grand opening public performance by Colcannon. The Denver-based Celtic music-makers will take the Minnaert Center Main Stage as the close to the Center’s grand opening festivities.
Colcannon, who have been playing together for more than a decade, play both traditional and original Irish tunes. Says the Rapid City Journal: “Few bands exude such genuine enjoyment for what they are doing. … Put simply, you cannot and will not see another Celtic band with the wit and ingenuity of Colcannon.” The group has released six albums for Oxford Road Records.
Colcannon will perform on Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $20 general, $10 students, staff and seniors. Tickets will go on sale Jan. 3. They are available online at the Minnaert Center Web site, www.spscc.ctc.edu/CFA, or by calling (360) 596-5501. Artist information is available at www.colcannon.com.
The Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts is South Puget Sound Community College’s signature building. It houses a 500-seat Main Stage theatre and Black Box theatre, an art gallery and state-of-the-art music facilities. Classrooms – including art labs and choral- and instrumental-music rehearsal spaces – offer home bases for the college’s humanities and communication programs.
