Immigration symbolized by art at South Puget Sound Community College

During the month of February, South Puget Sound Community College’s Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts presents Faith Hagenhofer’s immigrant/emigrant-themed fiber art. A reception for the display is scheduled for Feb. 9 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Twenty-five years ago, Hagenhofer came to Thurston County from New York City. That experience and the time spent during her childhood watching her immigrant mother knit inspire Hagenhofer’s creations. Her recent work investigates the various aspects of migration and its cultural residue. By mixing old and new techniques, she depicts the effects of interaction between cultures. Hagenhofer calls the result “a space that is not the old culture or place and not entirely the new place.”

Hours for the gallery at the Minnaert Center are Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
