Nature meets abstract art at South Puget Sound Community College
March brings the abstract and formalist paintings of Alec Clayton to South Puget Sound Community College’s Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts. A reception for the exhibit is scheduled for March 9 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Nature inspires Clayton’s work. He captures the essence of its movement and struggle by symbolizing actions such as the way a baby bird reaches for a worm, the way a fish leaps from the water, and the ways humans walk, run, and dance. In addition, Clayton uses stripes, dots, and checkerboard patterns as contrasts to the more amorphous gestural forms. The results are colorful paintings that suggest joyous celebration but often include ominous undertones.
Hours for the gallery at the Minnaert Center are Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
