OLYMPIA -- South Puget Sound Community College will be hosting a wide variety of art exhibits this year in the new Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Art’s gallery space, presented alongside their 2006-2007 Arts and Lecture Series. Exhibits will be rotating monthly, starting with September’s exhibit of photography by Del Lusk.

Now in his second incarnation as a photographer (he took time off to be a stockbroker), Del Lusk takes his inspiration from the work of Ansel Adams. Lusk’s silver gelatin prints are dark black-and-white interpretations of landscapes and still-lifes that draw the viewer into an alternate world. Lusk describes, “The darkness is not inherent to the scene, but because I struggle with the negative until I am satisfied, a dark print is usually the one I like best.”

Self-taught, Lusk began as a magazine and news photographer, and then switched to fine art photography. He worked as Assistant Professor of Journalism at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, ID before taking a break from the camera to try his hand as a stockbroker.

Lusk’s work has been featured in the December 2005/January 2006 issue of Camera Arts magazine and is in the permanent collection of BankAmerica, the City of Walla Walla, and the City of Spokane.

All exhibits will be open for viewing at the Minneart Center art gallery from 12-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and during all performances taking place in the theaters. Admission is free.
