Students of Color College/University Recruitment Day scheduled for South Puget Sound Community College

South Puget Sound Community College and the Thurston Group of Washington State are partnering to bring the 11th annual Students of Color College/University Recruitment Day to the college’s Student Union Building (Bldg. 27) on Feb. 2.

The day of events begins with a recruitment fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair allows students of color who are high school juniors or seniors, community college students, or college transfer students to meet with representatives from 20 institutions of higher learning. (See attachment for a complete list of participating institutions.)

For each institution to which a person hopes to apply, he or she should bring a portfolio that includes a head-and-shoulders photo; WASL results; three letters of recommendation; a list of community service activities; SAT/ACT scores; a 300-word essay on any topic; sealed, official high school transcripts; and a list of awards and certificates. Students who meet certain requirements might receive scholarships, grants, work-study opportunities and/or college admittance.

After the recruitment fair, a banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Dr. Dorothy Cowser Yancy, the president of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C., is slated as the guest speaker. Banquet tickets cost $30 per person.
