McGuinness and Williams to show art at South Puget Sound Community College

For its February exhibit, the gallery at the South Puget Sound Community College Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts presents works from contemporary basket maker Dorothy McGuinness and printmaker Mimi Williams. A reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 8 opens the exhibit, which runs through the end of the month.

McGuinness uses acrylic paints on paper, which she subsequently cuts and weaves into vessels. Her influences include traditional American, Native-American and Japanese weaving, and she combines bamboo and paper techniques with her own innovations.

Williams has been exhibiting her work at the Olympia Arts Walk for six years. Her work has become narrative, and the stories the images tell resonate with a wide variety of people. The images come from events she and other people have experienced.

Hours for the gallery at the Minnaert Center are Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
