South Puget Sound Community College using SMARTHINKING tutoring service
Students enrolled at South Puget Sound Community College now have the SMARTHINKING tutoring service available to them. SMARTHINKING adds to the college’s support services by providing online tutoring 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The service gives students help with their assignments at home whenever they need it. Compatible with any Internet connection, it brings free, one-on-one help to a student’s fingertips.
Covered subjects include writing, math classes from basic math to calculus II, accounting, statistics, finance, economics, biology, physics, chemistry and Spanish. Handbooks for writers and ESL students are also available. Additionally, writing from any class can be sent to SMARTHINKING’s writing lab for review, and a tutor will provide detailed, personalized feedback.
“In our surveys, students said they needed tutoring, and with our online course offerings expanding, faculty were asking how were we going to support those classes, so we were looking for something like this,” said Dr. Rhonda Coats, the college’s vice president of Student Services. “SMARTHINKING gives students a resource when they need it. It’s not meant to replace face-to-face tutoring but to supplement it and give a resource to students who are using their computers more to interact.”
To get started, a student should logon at www.smarthinking.com. The username is SPSCC + the student’s nine-digit student ID number. The password is SPSCC.
