South Puget Sound Community College partners with Corvettes de Olympia for scholarship fund-raiser
South Puget Sound Community College and Corvettes de Olympia, a local car club, are gearing up for this year’s All City Rally on April 20.
The rally, which is not a show or speed event but instead plays out as a motorized scavenger hunt, raises funds for the college’s Corvettes de Olympia Scholarship in Automotive Technology. The Northwest Region of the Sports Car Club of America is an event co-sponsor. At 9 a.m. from the starting point at Corvette and High Performance (2840 Black Lake Boulevard), teams of at least two people (a driver is required to have a navigator) set out on 50 miles of county roads and try to find answers to questions about things they see along the way. After each participant has completed the course, an award ceremony will take place in the college’s Student Union Building. Drivers and their navigators will be recognized, and trophies will be handed out to the three teams that submit the most right answers.
The event is limited to 120 cars. Individuals can participate using any street-legal vehicle. Through April 10, the entry fee is $16 per car; after that date, the fee is $20 per car. A participant must have a current driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance. Also, cars must receive a brief safety inspection. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a liability release. For more information about participating in the event, contact Brian Cousineau at 360-413-7645 or visit www.corvettesdeolympia.org.
Corvettes de Olympia is dedicated to developing friendship and pride among Corvette owners and drivers and encouraging skillful, safe and sportsmanlike driving habits on highways. Last year, the club provided $1,500 for its scholarship, and the college matched the amount with funds from the sale of donated vehicles. Since 1991, Corvettes de Olympia has provided more than $20,000 for the scholarship.
