South Puget Sound Community College displays art of Stolkin and Wells

The October exhibit at the art gallery in South Puget Sound Community College’s Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts features works by sculptor Maxwell Stolkin and painter Ashley Wells. A reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 5 opens the exhibit.

Stolkin uses the figure as a vehicle to play with different situations of intimacy, distance, mood and composition. He merges an expressive combination of sculpture, drawing, printmaking and painting to create a distinct vocabulary for each piece.

Wells’s paintings depict places we know but never think to notice. For her, what lies behind the scenes exudes a quiet beauty. Her work transforms these overlooked spaces using strong abstract compositions and irresistible shapes and colors.

Hours for the gallery at the Minnaert Center are Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
