South Puget Sound Community College hosts Russian quintet in fund-raiser for Wolf Haven

On Oct. 27, the Russian National Orchestra’s ARX Music Quintet will give two performances at South Puget Sound Community College’s Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts. The event is a fund-raiser for Wolf Haven International, and each concert includes Jean-Pascal Beintus’s new composition, “Wolf Tracks,” and a narrated version of Sergei Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf.”

Director-conductor Alexander Vereshagin founded the orchestra in 1992. Twelve years later, he produced this original program, enlisting Bill Clinton, Mikhail Gorbachev and Sophia Loren as narrators. Wolf Haven’s narrators include First Gentleman Mike Gregoire, local media personality Jerry Farmer, KING 5 TV’s Kelley Moore and Maureen Greeley, the author of “Wolf.”

A matinee will start at 2 p.m., and the evening performance, which features a small silent auction, will take place at 8 p.m. Tickets for the matinee are $5. For the evening concert, the audience has three price options: $25 for side seating, $50 for center-back seating and $100 for center-front seating. Tickets can be purchased at www.spscc.ctc.edu/CFA or by calling 360-596-5501.

The event is also the first for the Minnaert Center’s World Stage Series, which brings presenters and entertainers from all over the globe to Olympia.

Wolf Haven International is a nonprofit organization that provides a home for captive-born wolves, promotes conservation of wolf habitat and educates the public about wolf issues.
