Students must fill out a new application for Running Start each quarter. Please see Enrollment Services (building 25) or your high school counselor for a new application.

Spring Quarter 2008 Registration
Students may register online or in person beginning on February 12, 2008. If registering in person, bring your signed Running Start application to Enrollment Services in building 25. If registering online, you must first get your registration PIN from your high school counselor. PINs will be available starting on February 5th. If you register online, you must still turn in a signed Running Start application to the Running Start office. Students may also have their high school fax or mail in their application. It is important that students call to make sure their application has been received. Students will be placed into classes in the order their application is received, not when it was signed.

Adding/Dropping Classes
To add or drop a class, you must fill out the add/drop form [pdf]. Changes to your schedule cannot be made at the high school. You must come to building 25 to change your classes. Make sure you bring photo ID (driver’s license, student ID card, military ID, etc.). It is your responsibility to make sure that classes you add will count for high school credit. Changes you make will not be automatically sent to your high school. It is important to consult with your high school counselor before changing your classes.

Summer Quarter Registration
Running Start students are allowed to take summer quarter classes, however the student will be responsible for the tuition payment. Students wishing to obtain high school credit for classes taken over summer quarter at the college must fill out the High School Release form located in building 25 at the enrollment services counter. Students will fill out a regular South Puget Sound Community College enrollment form for summer quarter registration.

Registering for Over 18 Credits
Running Start students are allowed to take up to 18 credits tuition free. Should you wish to take more than 18 credits, you must fill out an Excess Credit Request form (available in building 25 at Enrollment Services) and meet with an advisor. Students are responsible for the tuition cost for each credit over the 18 credit maximum.

Release of Information
Running Start students are considered regular college students and therefore are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This means parents/caregivers do not have access to student grades, class schedules, etc. even though the student may be under the age of 18. Students may give parents/caregivers permission to view information and work with college staff by filling out the Release of Information form available in Enrollment Services (building 25).

Running Start students who will obtain 90 credits toward their associate degree need to follow the general graduation requirements. This includes:

• Two quarters prior to the quarter you will graduate, fill out the Graduation Application (located in building 25, Enrollment Services) and submit to Enrollment Services.
• Take the Academic Profile (AP) during your last quarter before completing your degree.
• Make sure you have met the Diversity Requirement. Beginning summer quarter 2005 all students are required to complete a “diversity” course. A list of these courses is available in the student catalog. (Students obtaining a program certificate do not need to complete the diversity requirement)

The graduation ceremony is held annually in June at the end of spring quarter. Students who have completed their graduation requirements above are encouraged to take part in the graduation ceremony. Diplomas are printed out of state and can take up to 10 weeks to be delivered to the school. South Puget Sound Community College will mail you your diploma.

Parking is free on campus because it is the summer quarter break. You will not need a parking permit.

There are a variety of services available to you that offer help with your coursework. These include:

• Writing Center: Building 22, Second floor, Room 220, 754 7711 ext. 5472, Hours 8:00am to 1:00pm, Monday – Thursday
• Math Tutoring Services: Building 22, Second floor, Room 222, 754-7711 ext. 5505 or ext. 5301, Schedule posted at the study center in building 22
• Smarthinking Online Tutoring: This is a new resource for SPSCC students. You are automatically eligible to use the service just by being a student! Smarthinking is an online tutoring site where you can go to get help from high school and college instructors. There is tutoring available for basic math, algebra, geometry & trigonometry, calculus, statistics, Spanish, writing, biology, human anatomy & physiology, chemistry, physics, accounting and economics. Features include live chat with instructors, the ability to submit a writing sample and have it evaluated and scheduled online appointments.
