FEST 100 Fundamentals of Firefighting 8 Credits
A
three week intensive training course in basic firefighting skills and safety,
concluding with live fire training. The course covers basic fire department
organization, safety, incident command system (ICS 100 and 200), accountability,
forcible entry, fire extinguishers, tools, hose evolutions, ventilation, ladders
search and rescue and burn to learn. This course meets the requirements of
Washington State Firefighter modules 1 and 2. Prerequisite: Admission to the FEST
program.

course of three in obtaining state firefighter I certification. This course

Forcible
entry, ground ladders, ventilation, water supply, fire hose, and fire streams.
This course uses the IFSTA essentials guide and is the second course of three in
obtaining IFSAC Firefighter I certification. This course meets or exceeds some
of the requirements for Washington State Firefighter I, Modules 1 and 3.

FEST 112 Firefighter I-3 5 Credits
Fire
control, fire detection/alarm/suppression systems, loss control, protecting
evidence, fire department communications, and fire prevention/public education.
This course used the IFSTA essentials guide and is the third and final course in
obtaining IFSAC Firefighter I. This course meets or exceeds some of the
requirements for Washington State Firefighter I, Modules 1 and 3. Prerequisite:
FEST 111.

FEST 120 Emergency Medical Technician 8 Credits
Development
of skills in recognizing symptoms of illness, and injuries and proper
procedures for care. Upon completion of the course students may test for
Washington State "EMT" certification. Prerequisite: Admission to
the Fire Protection Program, or approval of FEST program coordinator.

FEST 122 NFPA 1002 Driver Operator I Pump Construction 3 Credits
Pump
construction and theory course will be the first of three classes designed
to prepare the student for the technical application to fire pump
operations. Explore the various types of fire pumps, their construction,
operation and theory. Safe driving techniques, emergency operations, cold
weather operations, emergency vehicle accident prevention (EVAP)
certification and other related materials. Prerequisite: Admission to the
Fire Protection Program.

FEST 125 Fire Pumps II- Water Supply 3 Credits
Covers
water supply operations in fire service, including pre-fire planning
operations, water quantity calculations, water source operations, delivery
systems and options, and hydraulic calculations. Designed to meet the
competencies set forth in NFPA 1002: Driver/Operator. Prerequisite: FEST 122.

FEST 210 Firefighter II-1 5 Credits
Implementing
IMS, Radio Communications and Incident Reports, Pre-Incident Survey,
Rescue & Extrication Tools, Vehicle Extrication and Special Rescue,
and Hydrant Flow/Operability. This course uses the IFSTA essentials guide
for Firefighter II and is the first course of two that leads the student
towards IFSAC Firefighter II certification. Prerequisite: IFSAC
Firefighter I and FEST 112, or permission from the instructor.

FEST 211 Firefighter II-2 5 Credits
Hydrant
Flow and Operability, hose tools and appliances, foam fire streams,
ignitable liquid and flammable gas fire control, fire detection systems,
construction materials and building collapse, and fire cause and origin.
This course uses the IFSTA essentials Firefighter II guide and is the
second course of two that leads the student towards IFSAC Firefighter II
certification. Prerequisite: FEST 210 and IFSAC Firefighter I
certification.

FEST 212 Fire Service Career Preparation 5 Credits
Firefighter
written test-taking techniques, firefighter oral board techniques and practices,
resume writing and preparation for the state Firefighter I certification exam.
This course will assist students in the Fire Protection Technology program to
learn valuable skills necessary to be competitive in obtaining a career in the
fire service. Prerequisite: FEST 211.

FEST 215 Rescue Systems5 Credits
Rescue
methods, rescue tools, ropes and knots, high angle rescue techniques,
raising and lowering rope systems, moving and lifting heavy objects, and
basic urban search and rescue techniques. This course meets some of the
objectives for Rescue Systems I. Prerequisite: FEST 111, FEST 120.

FEST 216 Confined Space/Trench Rescue Practices 4 Credits
Confined
space and trench rescue equipment and techniques. Includes learning proper
safety techniques and ropes/knots necessary to conduct confined space and trench
rescue. Course teaches students basics about both confined space and trench
rescue and goes through equipment set-up procedures. Course meets requirements
for NFPA 1671: Awareness and Operations level for Confined Space and Awareness
level for Trench Rescue. Prerequisite: FEST 215.

FEST 217 Hazardous Materials 3 Credits
Provides
knowledge and skills necessary to safely respond to and manage the defensive
operations involved in a chemical emergency. This course goes beyond the
awareness level and provides the firefighter with additional knowledge to assist
in mitigating a hazardous materials incident. Prerequisite: FEST 216.

FEST 220 Fire Investigation 3 Credits
Burning
characteristics of combustibles, interpretation of clues, burn patterns leading
to points of origin, identification of incendiary indications, sources of
ignition and ignited materials, and preservation of fire scene evidence.

FEST 228 Firefighter Law 2 Credits
Firefighter's
legal responsibilities in driving, inspection, alarms and communications, and
other fire protection activities. Firefighter's rights, duties, liabilities, and
participation in legal activities including state and local fire marshal laws
relating to fire protection. Prerequisite: None.

FEST 232 Wildland Firefighter Type II 3 Credits
Entry
level fire suppression training for wildland fires including: grass, brush and
forest fires. Includes fire behavior, theory and strict safety standards.
Successful completion of classroom and practical sessions result in national (NWCG)
certification as wildland "Firefighter Type II". Prerequisite: None.
