HUM 111 European Cultures: Ancient and Medieval Periods 5 Credits
Examines Ancient Mediterranean and Medieval European culture. Studies literary, philosophical, theological, or artistic movements, contributors, and works which have shaped Ancient Mediterranean and Medieval European sensibilities. Develops multiple strategies for analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating the cultural expressions which constitute the classical and medieval heritages of Europe. Prerequisite: ENGL& 101 or WRIT 101 or concurrently or instructor's permission.

HUM 112 Renaissance and Reformation Periods 5 Credits
Examines cultures of the European Renaissance and the Protestant Reformation. Studies literary, philosophical, theological, scientific, musical, or artistic movements, contributors, and works which have shapes Renaissance and Reformation sensibilities. Develops multiple strategies for analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating the cultural expressions which constitute the Renaissance and Reformation heritages of Europe. HUM 113 European Cultures: Modern Period 5 Credits
Concentrates on European and Euro-American cultures of the Modern Period. Studies literary, artistic, social, political, or philosophical movements, contributors, and works which have contributed to and defined modern sensibilities. Develops multidisciplinary strategies for analyzing and interpreting these contributions and their contexts.

HUM 121 Multicultural America, Past to Present 5 Credits
Focuses on the history, culture, and contributions of various ethnic groups in the United States and the construction of "American" identity through power and privilege, past to present.  Students gain knowledge of other groups' history and cultural heritage and practice cross-cultural communications skills for education, community and work, environments. Prerequisite:  ENGL& 101 or WRIT 101 eligible.

HUM 240 Culture and Imperialism  5 Credits
Examines a major cultural complex that is defined by the interplay of dominant and subordinate cultural centers.  Possible case studies include:  Spain and the Americas, Great Britain and India, the United States and the "Third World," Europe and Africa, and contemporary globalization.  The material of the course may include discussion of ideology, theory, geography, history, politics, economics, art, poetry, drama, fiction, music, film. Prerequisite: ENGL& 101 or WRIT 101 or instructor's permission.
