The Medical Transcriptionist Certificate Program provides administrative skills and knowledge combined with clinical knowledge necessary for entry-level employment. Program coursework is representative of business and health disciplines. Prior to graduating, students will gain supervised on-the-job experience as a medical transcriptionist in a health care setting.

Medical transcriptionists key medical reports from voice recording devices. Program coursework enables students to transcribe physician/practitioner’s dictation of medical histories, physical examinations, consultations, surgical reports, diagnostic reports and other medically related material.

Fast and accurate transcription skills combined with a strong background in business English, keyboarding, medical terminology and anatomy are necessary.

Opportunities
Medical Transcriptionist Certificate Program graduates are prepared to work as entry-level employees in a variety of settings. These settings might include the following: hospital and clinic medical records departments, private physician offices, medical insurance firms and other health care facilities. Medical transcriptionists are employed both full and part-time. Medical transcriptionists are in demand for day and evening shifts.

What You'll Do Here
At South Puget Sound you’ll develop a solid base of knowledge in the following areas: medical transcription and machine transcription, human biology, medical terminology, word processing and business English.
