WRIT 100 Intermediate Grammar 2.5 Credits
Focuses on elements of grammatical compound, complex, and compound/complex sentences and strategies for fitting these sentences together into unified and coherent paragraphs; covers punctuation and includes individual and group editing techniques, to enable students to be more independently successful in writing clear and complex prose for college-level courses across the disciplines. May be repeated for up to 5 credits. (Course runs five weeks and starts week 1 and week 6). Prerequisite: Placement in WRIT 101 which may be taken concurrently, or by referral from developmental education.

WRIT 101 College Writing I 5 Credits
Develops students' ability to think, speak, write and read effectively. Develops writing skills by focusing on the strategies and techniques writers use to convey ideas and feelings, to make a point, and develops reading skills to enable them to participate in their community and the world at large. Emphasizes both the process and the product of writing. Prerequisite: Placement test (reading and writing) or placement test (reading) and diagnostic writing sample, or successful completion of ENGL 097 and READ 097.

WRIT 102 College Writing II 5 Credits
Further develops students' reading and writing skills at the advanced level. Teaches how to write argumentative essays by conducting research, constructing an argument, and following appropriate conventions. Fosters an appreciation of an open attitude towards diverse points of view and the value of reasoned debate in a healthy community. Prerequisite: Completion of WRIT 101 with a grade of "C" or better.

WRIT 106 Technical and Professional Communication 5 Credits
Study of effective technical and professional communication. Development of skills in proposal writing, technical report writing, graphic and oral presentations, and basic research techniques. Prerequisite: WRIT 101. Word processing skills recommended. [Same as TCOM 106]

WRIT 221 Creative Writing: Fiction 5 Credits
Develops creative writing skills through reading and writing activities, focusing on fiction. Requires significant amount of creative writing and critical analysis of that writing by instructor and fellow writers in a workshop format. Prerequisite: WRIT 101 or instructor's permission
