We offer tuition assistance and short-term, intensive training programs for eligible parents.

WorkFirst programs help parents receive training to improve their skills and increase their earning potential. WorkFirst Tuition Assistance provides money for tuition, fees, and books for parents to take credit or non-credit classes to upgrade their skills. Customized Job Skills Training and Integrated Basic Skills programs are full-time, short-term training linked to employment opportunities in the community.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for WorkFirst Education, Training and WorkFirst Financial Aid you must:

Currently be receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) assistance from DSHS and working at least 20 hours per week
Be a parent working in a low-wage job and meet the income guidelines listed below.

What WorkFirst programs are offered?

WorkFirst financial aid provides assistance for eligible parents to participate in Associate of Technical Arts Degree and Certificates of Completion programs through South Puget Sound Community College. Specified, contracted courses for only WorkFirst participants are available in the Job Skills Training, Customized Job Skills Training, and other training and education.
