South Puget Sound Community College serves the community of greater Thurston County. The college is located in Olympia, Washington, a growing city on the southern tip of the Puget Sound. As the state capital and seat of state government, Olympia is noted for its unique blend of small-town friendliness, business and political activity and natural beauty.
Olympia has an excellent public school system, accessible public transportation and affordable housing. It is home to a welcoming waterfront, with an array of public art. The city maintains several gorgeous, family-friendly parks, and the Olympia Farmers Market is second in size only to Seattle’s Pike’s Place Market. Olympia nurtures a rich community of artists and celebrates their work twice a year during Arts Walk.
Just south, sharing boundaries with Olympia is the City of Tumwater -- the oldest permanent American settlement on Puget Sound, and the third largest city in Thurston County. To the northeast is the City of Lacey. Attractive and diverse, Lacey is the fastest growing community in the county. The City of Yelm, a growing and thriving rural community, lies in the southeast portion of Thurston County.
The cities of Seattle and Portland are within easy driving distance from Thurston County. If one is seeking recreation outside the boundaries of Thurston County, skiing, hiking and other outdoor activities are within easy reach in the nearby Olympic and Cascade Mountains. Also hours away are the majestic Mount Rainier, the Olympic Peninsula, rainforests and Pacific Ocean beaches.
The Pacific Northwest is a great place to call home, and South Puget Sound Community College sits in the heart of it.
