Registration Lab

Registration Lab

New students to South Puget Sound Community College go through Registration Lab which is where we show you how to use the online tools to select your courses and then register for the upcoming quarter. When deciding whether to come in person or go online, consider the following:

ON CAMPUS REGISTRATION LAB

What can I expect from the Registration Lab experience? This is group advising in a computer lab. It is a two hour session. Please plan on spending the entire two hours with us. We are limited to serving up to 30 students per session due to the number of computers available in our lab and our desire to offer quality advising to our students. “Non-students” (children, significant others, parents, friends, etc.) are not permitted in the lab. There is unsupervised seating outside of lab for these individuals. If you come to a session that is full you will need to return for a different session to receive assistance. All sessions are walk in, no appointment is needed.
I learn best when I am in a classroom with other students and can ask questions. You will have access to Educational Advisors to ask questions and help you register for your first quarter of classes. Remember- this is not the time for full degree planning! We are just registering for your first quarter classes. You can set up an appointment to do more one on one advising with an Educational Advisor before or after registration.
I spend a lot of time online and can successfully complete an online transaction like purchase goods from an online retailer.  If you are comfortable in an online environment we encourage you to try our online classroom! If you get stuck you are always welcome to come to an in person session at any time.
I have transcripts from another college that I need reviewed before registering for classes. If you make a Transfer in Student appointment you might not need to come to Registration Lab at all! We can complete an unofficial evaluation of your transcript, talk about what to sign up for next, make sure you have overrides for any necessary courses and then release your registration PIN if you feel you can go online and register yourself. If you still want someone to be there when you register then you can come to one of our Registration Lab sessions. Make sure your official transcripts are submitted to Enrollment Services one week prior to your appointment.
I’m ready to register! Where do I go? Check our Advising Calendar for upcoming sessions. They will say “NEW REG LAB” on the calendar. All sessions are located in building 23, room 201. Bring photo ID and your Student ID number with you as well as your test scores or a copy of any transcripts we need to look at.

ONLINE REGISTRATION LAB

What can I expect from the Registration Lab experience? This is an advising classroom set up in the CANVAS online learning system. This is meant to be the online equivalent of our in person session. You will be able to print the materials that are handed out in our in person sessions. Once you have completed the classroom there is a quiz at the end. You are expected to pass with an 80% or better. Your quiz results will be emailed to us and then we will email you back your registration information. Please keep in mind that this is not an automated response, so it can take up to two business days to receive a response with your registration information. Once you receive your registration information you can go online and register for classes. If you find you need assistance from an advisor you will need to come through one of our in person sessions.
I learn best when I am in a classroom with other students and can ask questions. Online registration will not give you contact with an Educational Advisor. This option is best when you know what classes you want to sign up for and feel comfortable navigating an online system. If you want to meet with someone to talk about degree requirements, make a new student pre-registration appointment. We can answer any general questions you have and get you ready to go through Registration Lab online or in person.
I spend a lot of time online and can successfully complete an online transaction like purchase goods from an online retailer.  Online registration is very similar to shopping online. You select the courses you want to sign up for and then log in to your account to register. The Registration Lab online classroom takes you through tutorials on how to use the online tools to register for your classes.
I have transcripts from another college that I need reviewed before registering for classes. You might get frustrated with online registration if your official transcripts haven’t been evaluated yet. You will be blocked for unmet prerequisites for any course where you took the prerequisite at another institution. You may want to set up a Transfer in Student appointment where we can do an unofficial evaluation of your transcripts prior to registration. Make sure your official transcripts are submitted to Enrollment Services one week prior to your appointment.
I’m ready to register! Where do I go? You can log in any time of day, any day of the week. The classroom takes about an hour to go through and is available during open registration periods. Go to Registration Lab Online.
