Adult Basic Education
The ABE (Adult Basic Education) program at South Puget Sound Community College helps students build their reading, writing, and math skills.
Location
Classes are offered in the daytime and evening at the main campus in Olympia and in the afternoon at the Hawks Prairie Center in Lacey.
Cost
$25 tuition+ $15 matriculation fee ($40 total) per student covers all ABE or GED classes taken each quarter.
Eligibility
*If you are under the age of 19, you must bring a completed High School Release form or an Approval to Test form, signed by a school official and parent/guardian. You can pick up this form at your local high school, at the high school's district office, or South Puget Sound Community College's Information Center in building 25.
How to Register for a ABE Class
If you are new, or returning to the program after more than six months, you must take an Entry Test to register for classes.
- Entry tests will be given in the college Testing Center.
- Testing will start one month before the beginning of each quarter and will continue through the first week of the quarter or until classes have filled.
- Entry testing is offered at the following drop in times:
Mondays between 8 am and 3 pm
Tuesdays between 8 am and 6 pm
After testing, you will get information for how to sign up for an ABE/GED Welcome and Registration Session. At this session, you will receive an orientation to the Basic Skills Programs and register for ABE/GED classes.
Other Important Information:
Children are not allowed in the test sessions, Welcome Sessions, or in classes.
