Online Courses

The requirements of an online course are not significantly different than a traditional course. All online courses at South Puget Sound are hosted by the Angel Learning Management Suite. Once you log on to your online classroom, you will notice that it includes readings, exercises, videos, podcasts, discussion
forums, written assignments, and group work. Like a traditional course, online courses have regularly scheduled beginning and ending dates, as well as deadlines for the completion of class assignments.
You should expect to spend 12-15 hours per week working on the course, and plan to work on the course every day or so to make sure you don’t miss important requirements or fall behind your peers.

Remember: Online instruction is not self-paced – there is a course schedule that may include midterms, finals and other hard deadlines. The advantage of online instruction is that you get to do the work during the hours of the day that are best for you, not that you can delay to the middle of the quarter to begin or work fewer hours than a traditional course.

Find a Course

Online courses printed in the class schedule are labeled “ONLINE.” If you’re not able to find the online course you want at South Puget Sound, you may access online courses at other colleges via the Washington Online homepage. From the WAOL homepage, you’ll be able to search for a course that you’d like to take.

Admissions

You must be admitted to South Puget Sound Community College (or another community or technical college in Washington State) before you can register for online instruction through WAOL. Your can apply online at https://admission.ctc.edu/applicant/welcome.cfm.

Registration

Students must register online or in person for online classes. You’ll find detailed registration procedures on page 45 of this schedule, or at www.spscc.ctc.edu. If you have questions about registration, contact an advisor or Enrollment Services. Important: Students must have a personal e-mail account before registering for online courses.

Dates

It is important to note that dates for some online courses may be different from the traditional South Puget Sound Community College class schedule. Courses from other colleges, or courses that South Puget Sound shares with other colleges, will follow the WAOL schedule (find the WAOL start/stop dates at: www.waol.org/coursecatalog/). The following South Puget Sound courses will follow the WAOL start/stop dates:

• Archaeology (ANTH&204)
• Cultural Anthropology (ANTH&206)
• Indians of North America: Diversity (ANTH&210)
• Northwest Coast Indians (ANTH&216)
• And any non-SPSCC courses offered through WAOL

Books

Books for your online course may be purchased at the campus bookstore. You may also go online at www.spsccbook- store.com to order books. Your instructor section is “WAOL_.” All online orders must be paid by credit card.

It is crucial that you don’t wait to seek assistance if you are experiencing difficulties accessing your online class- room. Help and technical support are provided by Presidium Learning. Presidium customer care technicians are available to support students 24/7.

Add/Drop

Online courses will accept enrollment through the first day of WAOL classes beginning.

• Web Registration ends at 5 P.M. on the 4th day of the quarter.
• All Add/Drop/Withdrawals must be done in person after the 4th day of the quarter.

Withdrawl

Students are responsible for FORMALLY WITH DRAWING from any course they no longer want to be registered for through Enrollment Services. Financial Aid: Students receiving Financial Aid must obtain signatures from the Financial Aid Office before Add/Drop forms can be processed by Enrollment Services.
