New South Puget Sound Community College men’s hoops coach Curtis Norwood has wasted little time since taking over the program, announcing his first signing in Ridgefield High School standout Robert “Scott” Backstrom.

Backstrom led Ridgefield in both scoring and rebounding in his senior campaign, as the 6-foot, 5-inch, 215-pound forward earned First Team All-Greater St. Helens League honors for the second consecutive season. Also team captain and MVP, Ridgefield also excelled in the classroom, graduating with a 3.45 GPA.

“Scott is the type of student-athlete who will add to the new foundation of South Puget Sound Community College basketball,” Norwood said. “We love his energy and commitment.”

Norwood said the team will announce more signings soon.
