OLYMPIA — The first of five candidates for president of South Puget Sound Community College will visit the campus and community Tuesday, Dec. 4. Dr. Larry Galizio, president of Clatsop Community College in Astoria, Oregon, will tour the campus and community, meet faculty and staff, visit with the Board of Trustees, and take part in an open forum for the community and campus.
Prior to his tenure as president of Clatsop Community College, Galizio served as the director for Strategic Planning in the Chancellor's Office of the Oregon University System. And before coming to the Chancellor's Office, he served three terms in the Oregon State Legislature, where he chaired the Ways & Means Education Subcommittee responsible for all pre-K-20 public education budgets, as well as co-chaired the Capital Construction Subcommittee of Ways & Means. Both concurrent with and prior to his legislative service, Galizio was a program director and full-time faculty member at Portland Community College for 16 years. Galizio and his wife, Janice, have three young children: Giovanni, 3, and 1-year-old twins, Carmella and Matteo.
The Dec. 4 forum will be held on the South Puget Sound campus in the Building 26 Lecture Hall, Room 105 from 2:15 - 3:15 p.m. The dates the other four candidates will visit the community are as follows:
- Wednesday, Dec. 5 – Dr. Douglas W. Allen, president of Ridgewater College in Willmar, Minnesota
- Thursday, Dec. 6 – Dr. Sandra A. Fowler-Hill, executive vice president of Instruction and Student Services at Everett Community College in Everett, Washington
- Monday, Dec. 10 – Dr. David M. Smith, vice president of Instruction and Student Affairs at Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely, Colorado
- Tuesday, Dec. 11 – Dr. Timothy S. Stokes, executive vice president for Academic and Student Affairs, Tacoma Community College in Tacoma, Washington
